This tiny insect, no bigger than a fingernail, looks like a very small cockroach. However, it cannot die. They do not suffer from old age, can support any weight that falls on them, are unaffected by radiation, all poisons and long falls. They are also immune to every known disease (and, presumably, every unknown one). If eaten, they emerge whole from the digestive system and continue living. Their exoskeleton, in human terms, is estimated to be five thousand times the strength of diamond. They can also survive centuries at a time with no food or water. They breed very slowly which is probably a good thing or else the world would be over run with them.

They are of great interest to scientists, wizards, priests, the aristocracy and those who fear death, all of whom believe there must be a way to transfer the insects immortality into humans.
