No one can ever be quite sure where the Ever-changing Device is at any given moment except its holder.
The Device is passed from person to person. With each exchange, it changes to whatever it "feels" its current owner will need most. Besides the shape-changing, it seems to have other inherent magical properites.
Holders will know that they must give up the Device when it changes shape after being touched by another person. The former owner then explains to the new owner what instructions they can. It is generally assumed that the Device goes to the people who can and need to use it to do great things. Or merely minor good thing.
No one is sure how many people were aided by the Device.
