Garak Plaguerash, also known as Garak Plaguerash the Defiler was a Night Orc Necromancer who caused a short, unpleasant war in the mid 1900s AS.
Garak was inducted into the academy at the Arcane Sanctum at Ghyrak at an early age, showing great potential. He was cast out of the academy after five years, for manipulating and hindering studies of other disciples, an inclination towards Necromancy, and what has only been recorded as "partaking in Unholy Practices". It was during this time he attained the name "Plaguerash". For not only his darker powers, but his demeanor and general appearance as well (he was said to have particularly hideous boils on the left side of his face, something very uncommon amongst the smooth skinned Night Orcs).
He fled to Thass, living reclusively in the Kingdom of Shattered Lands and continued to practice Necromancy. After several years, he chafed at his solitary existence, and sought to use the full potential of his abilities. Garak ventured out and robbed many tombs on the borders of the Kingdom of Dark Stones, also daring to encroach upon Soreau and wrest control of a few lesser necromantic creations to push into his service. His actions soon drew the attention of the Booklords, and the rulers of the Kingdom of Dark Stones, both of whom sent parties to either bring him in for punishment or simply to kill him. Fearing for his life, he sent the armies he had gathered to nearby Shattered Lands villages, and slaughtered them to bolster their ranks, he was able to hold off Soreau and the Kingdom of Dark Stones. Emboldened by his early (though meagre) victories, he got it into his head to begin an invasion of the Kingdom of Dark Stones, seeing himself upon the throne.
Taken unawares by his move the armies of the Kingdom took a couple of months to respond in kind, by which time Garak had managed to subdue several outlying towns, raiding cemetaries and mausoleums to fortify his position. The Kingdom armies, though having halted his advance, found themselves unable to fully push him out of the Kingdom. However, in spite of not being a particularly warlike people*, the Booklords had taken exception to their servants being wantonly pilfered and sent forth a contingent of undead to bring Garak to justice. Suddenly attacked on his flank, Garak found himself unable to wage battle with the Booklord's undead, and control his armies defending against the Kingdom's forces. The battle became a one sided skirmish, and the Kingdom armies dispatched Garak's forces with ease.
Garak himself was taken prisoner, and sentenced to execution by fire on the borders of the Kingdom of Dark stones (the kingdom had refused to permit his foul presence upon their territory, and also decided not to "taint the earth" by burying him.)
His name was recorded as "Garak Plaguerash the Defiler" to reflect his crimes. Suffice to say that despite the Night Orc's own revultion at Garak's actions, relations between Rezhekal and the Kingdom of Dark Stones were sour for a long time afterwards.

There are further stories about Garak's ashes, and how a team of adventurers set out on royal edict to take them to the Land of Sixty Dancing Volcanoes and throw them into the first lava pit they could find. Supposedly the team encountered fierce resistance (of course) along the way, and engaged in a duel with the banished spirit of Garak (however one battles a banished spirit) before finally disposing of the remains once and for all.
This is all, of course, a load of rubbish.
