A small princedom in eastern Asivis, whose peculiar language has the unfortunate effect of being found quite humourous by outsiders. Ruled by the Grand Munkumph from the capital of Oomunk, the country is quite poor, and many of its citizens live in squalor - which misfortune, coupled with the reaction to their language outside their borders, accounts for their sour, unfriendly disposition.
As a people, the Munkumphami are short, dark-haired, and commonly brown-eyed, with pale skin and classic Asivic facial structure. They tend to appear older than they are due to poor living conditions, and are passable shrimp fishermen and beet farmers. They excel in a form of poetry practiced only in Munkumpham and its neighbouring countries - called Tumphamooli, it is composed of 20-26 stanzas, each with 6 eight-syllable lines, and is usually about death (personified as Bunku-who-is-not-invited, a man made of shrimp) or time (personified as Bonka-who-runs-too-fast, a woman made of beets).
There are only two first names in Munkumphami culture: Bunku for men and Bonka for women. The only way to distinguish individuals is through lengthy epithets, such as "Bunku-who-has-a-large-nose" or "Bonka-who-forgot-her-mother's-birthday". These epithets can be quite nasty, and may be yet another reason for the dourness of Munkumpham's citizens.
