Worldbuilder Spotlight:

The Rooks are a strange, birdlike race that is arugably sentient, and definitely to be feared.

They appear as dwarf-sized birds with four wings and four legs with razor claws, sharp beaks, and purple feathers. They are capable of constructing primitive devices and even buildings, and they have a rudimentary language. Males have crests of white or yellowish feathers on the backs of their heads, and will (in a rare display of something approaching art) often collect various odds and ends- rocks, berries, pieces of trash left by other races- and build nests with them, apparently to attract females. They will even, occasionally, assemble these into odd, tenuous constructs or adornments for their crests, and will, in rare instances, trade with other races for slightly more interesting trinkets*.

They also have a very strong communal sense, fantastic hearing, and the ability to swarm on an attacker or invader with terrifying speed. If left alone, they will ignore people. If agitated, they will engage in a strange, strutting, threat-behavior. If provoked, they will attack furiously.

Their home territory is called The Rookery and is treated like an unfriendly, but neutral country.

The Rooks currently hold the Crystal of Fate

History, even recent history often speaks of the Rooks as far more intelligent than they currently seem. It is suspected the race is somehow degenerating in the last five-hundred years. Many feel a curse cast by Egutu the Bloody is responsible for this, but considering his final fate, this seems unlikely. However, there is talk of a strange Shadow that cursed the race that bore his likeness . . .
It is also worth noting that the rooks gained control of the Crystal of Fate at the Fall of Egutu...

*Prospective traders are warned against this, however; not only is any interaction with the rooks a dangerous proposition, but their creations are frequently less valuable than the trash that they are made from.
