Siffl
Also known as "Those thieving little buggers"
Siffl resemble large squirrels. They are hairless, except for some Northern species, and their backs are covered in sharp spines.
Siffl hibernate through the winter and, come spring, they wake up. It is at this time that females will give birth, usually to two offspring, though occasionally they have been found with one, three, or even four. The young travel with their mother by clinging to the spines on her back. Should danger threaten (such as a predator or a male siffl) they will leap off of their mother and scamper up the nearest tree. By fall, the young siffl areold enough to dig their own hibernation den. It is at this time that their mother will drive them off, and then seek out a new mate.
Siffl are fairly widespread. In their natural habitats they are omnivorous scavangers, eating whatever they can find, steal or catch. With the spread of the sentient races they have moved into towns, where they make use of their nimble hands and intelligence to open locks to storerooms and homes, from which they steal food. Siffl have also been known to make hibernation dens under floorboards and in walls, due to the warmth. This is usually somewhat of a nuisance for the inhabitants of the houses.
Siffl are occasionally eaten, though it is usually considered a lower class thing to do, though apparantly they can be quite tasty.
Associated with Kiatirsh, the Mischief-Maker.
