The Spear of Thought is noted as a "powerful natural ability" imbued upon the majority of magic-users. It is said that the Spear was first imagined during the Bloodstained Aeon. A Necromancer was, from a distance, watching his small army of undead attacking a light recon group formed of the Soldiers of Nherru and during the battle, he was surprised from behind by one of their spies, who attempted to kill him and thus destroy the undead.
According to his documentation of the event, nearby dust transformed into a silver-headed spear which buried itself in the spy. His journal says, "I thought hard, but my mind was blanked of spells; I waved my arms at him to try to intimidate him and the Spear flew out of the dust."
Having done its job, the Spear dissipates back into dust, but for the spearhead, which remains embedded in the unlucky victim.

Publication of this event led to it being incorporated as a part of compulsory international magical education.
