Also known in legend under such names as The River of Life, The Sparkling Serpent of Kobbon, and The Manifold Coils of Khadis-Pasha, the River Djatra was the only source of water amid the ever-shifting dunes of the Desert of Kobbon. Long thought to be merely a myth, its dried-up riverbed was rediscovered in the late 1800s AS (during the Era of Expansion), along with the ruins of the lost civilization of Quuarmar.
Oddly enough, the Djatra flowed neither to the sea nor from it. Explorers have followed the river's ancient course through the desert in both directions, and on both ends they have been met with the same sight: a hollow basin, long devoid of any moisture. The source of the river is thus unknown, as is even the direction in which it flowed - leading a few scholars to believe that the Djatra may not actually have been a true river at all, but merely an extremely long and winding lake.
These scholars are generally laughed out of lecture halls.
