Said to come from the crystaline Ninth World originally, the Steel Horde were once strange, mechanical creatures. Over time, however, they faded, and their bodies became living weapons with the humans with whom they forged an alliance.

They were a key part of the alliance against Egutu.

The Legion arrived on Xothu during the late Age of Wounds/early Era of Expansion. They fell to ground in waves of spectacular meteor showers, and though not directly responsible, each wave is said to have been the harbinger of great change in some part of the world. Recently unearthed rumours indicate that there were members of the Steel Horde on Xothu as early as the Bloodstained Aeon. The Chronicles of Battle contains entries that remark of spectacular duels between Soldiers of Nherru and glistening mechanical beasts, with the Soldiers often being defeated (a very rare feat.)
