Unjust Gods' Curse of Muteness

History
Evidence from ancient manuscripts suggests that The Unjust Gods' Curse of Muteness was first used by an unnamed Enchanter who wished that he could lecture & teach the new ones in the Schools of Enchantment without needing to cast Nalo's Booming Voice to be heard. The Curse itself progressed from a simple spell used in the classroom, to classrooms across Xothu, and was made famous by the Northern Hordes in 443 A.S. when they used it to make the silent assault on the Western Orc Capital. It was only just successful because the Enchanter who cast the spell, watching from a distance, was killed halfway through the assault. The spell abruptly ended and the air was filled with sudden screaming, clanging of swords and the whirring, spluttering sound of the Governmental leaders escaping in the Grand Dirigibles.

We only know this information based on journals and manuscripts found in the Mountain Fortress of Shug after the destruction of the Western Orcs.

It is also assumed to have been used by Dakka the Jackal, whose enchanted sword never made a sound. The sword currently hangs in the Ghyrak library, and to this day does not make even the slightest audible noise, suggesting either that Dakka was not killed by the Talomihn border guard following his defeat by the Sultan and still exists in hiding, or that there is an unseen enchanter somewhere in the picture. Certainly in Guth, no picture of Dakka the Jackal contains an enchanter.

Description
The Curse will instantly quiet anyone or thing upon whom it is cast; ie: People will be unable to speak or make other natural noises; Weaponry will not make a sound even when it comes into contact with objects or people (handy for crossbows); floorboards rigged to creak to warn of intruders won't.

Casting Time
The curse takes five minutes to prepare, but thirty seconds to actually cast.

Spell Duration
The Unjust Gods' Curse of Muteness lasts either until the caster lifts it, with the appropriate hand-signal, or until the death of the caster.

Area of Effect
Any one visible object or up to one thousand people that are visible to the caster. This is very important. As long as the caster can see the target, s/he can Mute them. That includes looking out of a tower window half a mile away.

Limitations
No limitations are known to exist that prevent the Curse from being cast, other than the aforementioned "Visibility".

Casting Complexity
Anyone with hands, a voice, a good memory and a simple understanding of magic can cast this spell.
