Many different subspecies of Scut are known, with the brilliantly rainbow coloured Tropical Scut (Scucius Equatoris) being the most famous. They grow to around the size of a (flattened) tennis ball, have eight legs on each side and two sets of pincers (two primary, two secondary) at the fore. Their mandibles are suited to eating very small fish, plankton, and even various kinds of seaweed. The Scut is eaten by many different species, and has only survived by being numerous, widespread, and almost inedible to species not intelligent enough to open their shell. The shell itself is so hard as to keep the Scut safe even when dropped from a large height, but for a being with a knife is child's play to open.
Back to Fauna

A wild and lawless nation, Bethaul was a dusty land in the arid southern reaches of Asivis. The Jade Road skirted its borders, attracting outlaws who found shelter in the inhospitable badlands of the area and frequently clashed with the nomadic Helaalan people native to the area.

Despite claims of sovereignty by both the Western Helaalan Kingdom and the Free Republic of Bethaul, the area is under the de facto control of the Eastern Helaalan Kingdom which, in turn, is technically a \'special prefecture\' of the Talomihn Empire ruled by a Talomihn-installed puppet-ruler, King Beherut the Third.
Most Voidworkers are not actually particularly powerful, in spite of having a broad range of spells at their disposal. This is usually due to a misunderstanding of the true nature of "the void", or a lack of deeper study into the art. Voidworkers begin to realise the full potential of the art when they begin to draw power from the spaces between the stars themselves. It is here that even a basic understanding of astronomancy or astrology can be helpful.
Shadow Lilithians have a noted interest in Voidmancy, but Night Orcs, due to the nature of their traditional beliefs, are generally more adept at it than they.
Shadowmancy, while related, is not actually a subset of the Voidmancy practice, and draws its energies from different sources.

In some cases, this is literally true, thus a skilled Voidworker needs no focus-object unlike some other magical professions. Chomper; a small, light grean, round leafed plant that grows in temperate to tropical regions. It shoots out stalks that have rounded pods on the ends, which eventually open revealing a small, bright red cavity coated in hairs. These hairs are coated in a resin of sorts which causes numbness and in small insects, paralysis. Should the cavity become blocked, the end will rapidly seal itself off (some varieties develop a small film, while others merely close on themselves). The Chomper will then attempt to digest whatever has blocked it's pod, usually various insects which are attracted to the colour of the cavity. The resin, with some difficulty, can be extracted and used as a form of aneasthetic. However, an entire plant yields very little resin, and thus it takes many Chomper's worth for a bottle of the substance. This makes it available only to the very wealthy.
Razorgrass; known by many other names, including Deadly Knifeweed, The Tongues of the Bladed One (uncommon, origin unknown), and Slicing Weed. Night Orcs are therefore quite often eager to achieve, in some ways a little hardier than others.
